Der Ausstellungstitel <i>shattered earth<\/i> (zerschlagene, zersprungene, zerschmetterte Erde) suggeriert eine Fragmentierung jenes ganzheitlichen Blicks auf einen vermeintlich unber\u00fchrten Planeten Erde, wie er sich seit der ber\u00fchmten &#8220;Blue Marble&#8221; Fotografie in das kollektive visuelle Ged\u00e4chtnis eingepr\u00e4gt hat. Die Ge\u00adm\u00e4lde \u2013 und \u00fcber diesen Begriff wird noch zu sprechen sein \u2013 Albrechts k\u00f6nnen als Manifeste ei\u00adner kritischen \u2013 im doppelten Sinne von kritisierend und analysierend \u2013 Haltung gegen\u00fcber anthropozentrisch gepr\u00e4gten Sichtweisen auf die Welt ver\u00adstanden werden. Diese Haltung zeigt sich neben dem Ausstellungstitel auch in ihren Bildtiteln bzw. jenen ihrer Bildserien; sie orientieren sich u.a. an Begriffen und Redewendungen wie &#8220;powers of ten&#8221; (die Zeh\u00adnerpotenzen in der Mathematik, gleichzeitig ein Film von Charles und Ray Eames aus 1977), &#8220;terrestrial&#8221; (die Erde betreffend), &#8220;Blut und Boden&#8221; (die von den Natio\u00adnal\u00adso\u00adzia\u00adlisten auf so verh\u00e4ngnisvolle Art und Weise behauptete Ver\u00adbin\u00addung der Deut\u00adschen zu &#8220;ihrer&#8221; Erde) oder &#8220;modern dream&#8221; (als Kurzfassung der Be\u00adschrei\u00adbung der fortschrittsgl\u00e4ubigen Zielorien\u00adtiert\u00adheit des Menschen in der Moderne). Die Idee einer &#8220;zer\u00adsprungenen&#8221; Erde macht uns gleicher\u00adma\u00dfen die drohenden und \u2013 durch den mo\u00adder\u00adnen Menschen und seine &#8220;Moderni\u00adsie\u00adrungs\u00adpl\u00e4ne&#8221; (so Bruno Latour in seinem Buch <i>Das terrestrische Manifest<\/i> [2017], S. 13) \u2013 schon realisierten Risi\u00adken unseres Le\u00adbens\u00adraumes be\u00adwusst. Mit diesen geht ein weiteres Zerspringen einher, jenes der M\u00f6g\u00adlich\u00adkeit eines ganz\u00adheitlichen, objektivierbaren Bildes, das man sich von der Erde machen kann. Eine Im\u00adplikation dieser Problematik besteht darin \u2013 und so hat es Latour be\u00adschrie\u00adben \u2013, dass sich der Mensch im &#8220;Anthropoz\u00e4n&#8221; (ein Begriff, der in 2000 von zwei Naturwissen\u00adschaft\u00adlern als Vor\u00ad\u00adschlag, eine neue geochronologische Epoche zu benennen, ins Spiel gebracht wurde) nicht mehr dichotomisch gegen\u00fcber von &#8220;Natur&#8221; positionieren kann, sondern statt\u00addessen in komplexer Weise mit dieser verschr\u00e4nkt ist. Im Unterschied da\u00adzu steht die moderne Sicht auf die Erde vom Weltraum aus, eine Sicht, die nur vermeintlich die Er\u00adde als Ganzes erfahr\u00adbar und wahrnehmbar werden l\u00e4sst. Denn die Distanz, die die Er\u00adde scheinbar zum Ob\u00adjekt werden l\u00e4sst (nicht zuletzt auch durch Mittel wie die Luftfotografie, die Sug\u00adgestio\u00adnen von Google Earth, Fil\u00adme wie <i>Powers of Ten<\/i>), nimmt uns zugleich die unmittelba\u00adre N\u00e4he, der wir uns am Ende ja nicht entziehen k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">Nur vor diesem Hintergrund sind die Arbeiten von Silke Albrecht zu ver\u00adstehen. Die einzelnen Serien beschreiben dabei jeweils inhaltliche Schwer\u00adpunk\u00adte dieses Themenkom\u00adplexes: in den <i>terrestrial<\/i>-Werken tauchen \u2013 als Bild\u00adele\u00admente \u2013 schematisch ge\u00adzeich\u00adne\u00adte Pole der Erde und ihre Eismassen auf, zu\u00adsam\u00admen mit Plastikt\u00fcten, die f\u00fcr die Ver\u00adschmutzung der Weltmeere stehen k\u00f6n\u00adnen, genauso wie Tote-Bags, die eine m\u00f6gliche (Teil-)L\u00f6sung dieses Problems implizieren (und dies auch mit Werbespr\u00fcchen wie &#8220;Fair\u00adtrade&#8221; oder &#8220;Zur\u00fcck zur Natur&#8221; behaupten). Die Pole k\u00f6nnen als Metaphern f\u00fcr den Glo\u00adbus, das ver\u00adletzliche und verletzte Territorium, das es zu bewahren gilt, gelesen wer\u00adden. In ihre <i>powers of ten<\/i>-Werke hat Albrecht Stills des Films collagiert. Der Mensch ist hier die Schnittstelle, der Nullpunkt, von dem aus die Reise in das Univer\u00adsum bzw. in die ato\u00admaren Strukturen angetreten wird. \u00dcber diese colla\u00adgier\u00adten Bilder legt Albrecht ein ge\u00adzeichnetes Bild des Mannes aus <i>powers of ten<\/i> sowie, so scheint es, ga\u00adlaktischen Staub. In den Bildern der <i>shattered earth<\/i>-Serie setzt Albrecht Materialien wie di\u00adver\u00adse Me\u00adtalle, Papierfetzen, Klarsicht- und Plastikfolien und Schuhteile zueinander in Beziehung, ohne dass sich daraus ein koh\u00e4rentes Ganzes mit eindeutigen Bedeutungsasso\u00adzia\u00adtionen erge\u00adben w\u00fcrde. Albrecht hat da\u00adbei eine Art der Wiederverwertung von Ate\u00adli\u00ader-Materialien\/Resten vorgenommen. F\u00fcr die beiden <i>Blut und Boden<\/i>-Arbeiten hat Albrecht Ausdrucke von Stills des Videos <i>Welcome to the Anthro\u00adpo\u00adcene<\/i> (2012, von Felix Pharand-Deschenes und Owen Gaffney) ver\u00adar\u00adbeitet, das eine Computersimulation der Weltkugel zeigt. Ein Voice-Over Text und ein Graph verdeutlichen, wie der Mensch seit der industriellen Re\u00advo\u00adlution durch u.a. technische, energetische, agrarische Ent\u00adwick\u00adlun\u00adgen ver\u00e4ndernd in das Erdsystem eingegriffen hat. Dieser Graph st\u00fcrzt bei <i>Blut und Bo\u00adden (2)<\/i> in ein schwar\u00adzes Loch, das keine visuellen Informa\u00adtio\u00adnen bietet und so als Me\u00adta\u00adpher f\u00fcr die u.U. gegebene Haltlosigkeit unserer Situation ge\u00adlesen werden kann. In <i>Blut und Boden (3)<\/i> werden die Bilder von der Erde von einer Sturzflut von Far\u00adbe und Steinen bedroht, als w\u00fcrde die &#8220;Erde&#8221; \u00fcber dem ganzheitlichen Bild <i>von<\/i> der Erde zu\u00adsammen\u00adst\u00fcr\u00adzen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">Schon oben haben wir in Frage gestellt, ob man bei Silke Albrechts Arbeiten aus <i>shattered earth<\/i> von &#8220;Gem\u00e4lden&#8221; im engeren Sinne des Wortes sprechen kann. Denn es handelt sich nicht um mit dem Pinsel auf Leinwand gemalte Formen und Farben. Vielmehr arbeitet Albrecht u.a. auch mit Mitteln der Collage, der As\u00adsem\u00adblage sowie des N\u00e4\u00adhens und Stickens. She pours, she wipes, she draws on the canvas. Entscheidend aber ist, dass es hier einerseits um malerisch-\u00e4sthetisch hoch wirksame, eindrucksvolle und \u00fcberzeugende Bilder auf Lein\u00adwand geht, welche die Zwei\u00addi\u00admensionalit\u00e4t der Leinwand teil\u00adwei\u00adse reliefartig \u00fcberschreiten und andererseits um die Freude an der Schaffung die\u00adser Werke. Mit dem beschriebenen Inhalt steht dies insofern in Verbindung, als Albrecht nicht Ob\u00adjek\u00adte darstellt oder abbildet, sondern vielmehr ganz konkret schafft. Sie bringt sich als Ak\u00adteurin ein, nicht als distanzierte Darstellende. The exhibition title <i>shattered earth<\/i> suggests a fragmentation of the holistic view of a supposedly un\u00adtouched planet Earth that has been engraved in collective visual memory since the famous &#8220;Blue Marble&#8221;-photograph. Albrecht&#8217;s paintings \u2013 and this term will still have to be dis\u00adcussed \u2013 can be understood as measures of a critical, in the double sense of criticizing and analyzing, attitude towards anthropocentrically shaped views of the world. This attitude can be seen not only in the title of the exhibition, but also in the titles of the paintings and their respective series; among other things, they are orientated towards concepts and idioms such as &#8220;powers of ten&#8221; (the powers of ten in mathematics, at the same time a film by Charles and Ray Eames from 1977), &#8220;terrestrial&#8221; (concerning the earth), &#8220;Blood and Soil&#8221; (the relation of the Germans to &#8220;their&#8221; soil so fatefully asserted by the Na\u00adtional Socialists) or &#8220;modern dream&#8221; (as a short version of the description of man&#8217;s pro\u00adgressive goal orientation in modernity). The idea of a &#8220;disintegrated&#8221; earth makes us equal\u00adly aware of the threatening and \u2013 through the modern human being and his &#8220;plans for modernity&#8221; (according to Bruno Latour in his book <i>Down to Earth<\/i> [2017]) \u2013 already realized risks of our living space. These are accompanied by a further bursting, that of the possibility of a holistic, objectifiable image that can be made of the Earth. One implica\u00adtion of this problem \u2013 and this is how Latour described it \u2013 is that man can no longer po\u00adsition himself dichotomically against &#8220;nature&#8221; in the &#8220;anthropocene&#8221; (a term brought in\u00adto play in 2000 by two scientists as a proposal to name a new geochronological epoch), but instead is complexly intertwined with it. In contrast to this, there is the modern view of the Earth from space, a view that only supposedly allows the Earth to be experienced and perceived as a whole. For the distance that makes the Earth seem to become the object (not least through means such as aerial photography, the suggestions of Google Earth, films such as <i>Powers of Ten<\/i>) decreases our immediate proximity, which we cannot escape in the end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">The works of Silke Albrecht can only be understood against this background. The individu\u00adal series describe the focal points of this thematic complex: In the <i>terrestrial-<\/i>works, sche\u00admatically drawn poles of the earth and its ice masses appear \u2013 as pictorial elements \u2013 together with plastic bags that can stand for the pollution of the oceans, as well as tote-bags that imply a possible (partial) solution to this problem (and also claim this with ad\u00adver\u00adtising slogans such as &#8220;Fair-Trade&#8221; or &#8220;Back to Nature&#8221;). The poles can be read as me\u00adtaphors for the globe, the vulnerable and wounded territory to be preserved. Albrecht has col\u00adlaged stills of the film into her <i>powers of ten<\/i>-works. Man here is the interface, the zero point, from which the journey into the universe or atomic structures begins. Over these col\u00adlaged images Albrecht draws an image of the man from powers of ten and, it seems, ga\u00adlactic dust. In the paintings of the <i>shattered earth<\/i>-series, Albrecht relates materials such as metals, shreds of paper, transparent and plastic films and shoe parts to one ano\u00adther, without producing a coherent whole with unambiguous interpretative associations. Albrecht has carried out a kind of recycling of studio materials\/remnants. For the two <i>Blood and Soil<\/i>-works, Albrecht used printouts of stills from the video <i>Welcome to the An\u00adthro\u00adpocene<\/i> (2012, by Felix Pharand-Deschenes and Owen Gaffney), which shows a com\u00adpu\u00adter simulation of the globe. A voice-over text and a graph illustrate how, since in\u00addus\u00adtrial revolution, man has intervened in the earth system in a transforming way through, among other things, technical, energetic and agrarian developments. This graph plunges in\u00adto a black hole in <i>Blood and Soil (2)<\/i>, which offers no visual information and can thus be read as a metaphor for the possibly given groundlessness of our situation. In <i>Blood and Soil (3)<\/i>, the images of the Earth are threatened by a flash flood of colors and stones, as if the earths were falling over the entire image of the Earth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">We have already questioned above whether Silke Albrecht&#8217;s works shown in <i>shattered earth<\/i> can be described as &#8220;paintings&#8221; in the narrower sense of the word. For they are not forms and colors painted on canvas with a brush. Albrecht also works with the means of col\u00adlage, asessemblage, sewing and embroidery. She pours, she wipes and she draws on the can\u00advas. What is decisive, however, is that on the one hand it is about highly effective, impres\u00adsive and convincing pictures on canvas, which partly exceed the two-dimensions of the canvas in relief, and on the other hand about the joy of creating these works. This is connected with the content described in so far as Albrecht does not represent or depict ob\u00adjects, but rather creates them in a very concrete way. She brings herself in as an actua\u00adtor, not as someone who depicts with a distance.
